It’s Crank Week, take 2!
If you put Harold Camping into a particle accelerator and fired him at near-lightspeed into Gail Riplinger so they fused together, what would you get? None other than Peter S. Ruckman, of course. Dr. Petey’s biblical hermeneutic, and I use that term most generously, combines the bombastic nuttery of Riplinger with the incomprehensible pseudo-mathematical hermeneutic of Camping.
Here’s a real gem of an “argument” I found courtesy of the evil Alexandrian Cultists plotting to overthrow Christianity at Bible Versions Discussion Board, from the June 2009 issue [PDF] of Dr. Petey’s newsletter, the Bible Believers Bulletin:
Now, do you want a bomb to put in your pocket to shut the mouths of these stupid idiots who deny the four Scriptural truths written in “the scripture of truth” (Dan. 10:21). Well, here it is: it is delivered by a Filipino Christian who came out of Manila. This is Periander Aban Esplana, who was 35 years old when he wrote it. His work is callled “The Bible Formula.” . . .
Bro. Espiana’s AV 1611 “Mathematical Formula” turns out to be anohter one of several hundred “advanced revelations” that were totally missed by A. T. Robertson, Kenneth Wuest. . . . The “formula” is as follows:
A. At the beginning of the Bible in Genesis 1:1 – 10 words, 44 letters 17 vowels, and 27 consonants – IN ENGLISH, not ANY Hebrew manuscript.
B. At the end of the Church Age in 1 John 5:7 – 22 words, 88 letters, 34 vowels, and 54 consonants IN ENGLISH, not ANY Greek manuscript.
C. At the end of the Bible in Revelation 22:21 – 12 words, 44 letters, 17 vowels, and 27 consonants – IN ENGLISH, not in ANY Greek manuscript.
The AV 1611 Mathematical Formula is as follows:
A-44 plus C-44 equals B-88
A-17 plus C-17 equals B-34
A-27 plus C-27 equals B-54
That is, the WORDS found in Genesis 1:1 added to the WORDS found in Revelation 22:21 (the beginning and the end are summed up in 1 John 5:7 by the Trinity.
The LETTERS found in Genesis 1:1 aded to the LETTERS found in Revelation 22:21 produce the total LETTERS in 1 John 5:7.
The VOWELS found in Genesis 1:1 added to the VOWELS found in Revelation 22:21 give you the total VOWELS in 1 John 5:7.
The CONSONANTS found in Genesis 1:1 added to the CONSONANTS found in Revelation 22:21 equal those CONSONANTS found in 1 John 5:7.
Got it? Explain it. Not one Hebrew or Greek manuscript found in 2,000 years displays that mathematical miracle.

Ahh, go stick you [sic] left hind leg in your right ear.
I’ll repent of that advice when you send me the EXPLANATION for that ADVANCED REVELATION God gve you through a 35-year-old Filipino. In the meantime, act like a gentleman, even though you are NOT. Go “strut your stuff” before some cloned robots like yourself, and don’t waste our time. We have “the holy scriptures“; you don’t.1

But what’s to explain? Before someone can even begin to “explain” this pseudo-mathematical loblolly, Dr. Petey has to explain a few things himself. To wit:
- Who is Periander Aban Esplana, and why should I care?
- Why should I expect this apparent mathematical coincidence to have any significance at all?
- Why should we accept that 1 John 5:7 stands for the “end of the Church Age”? I suspect Dr. Petey takes some incomprehensible, hyper-Dispensationalist nitwittery for granted, but I remain not-convinced.
- Does the letter Y count as a consonant or a vowel?
- Does it work for spacing and punctuation as well, or just letters?
- Is this “mathematical miracle” truly unique, or would I find another one if I started searching for it elsewhere in the Bible – or, for that matter, any other English text that I happened to download, like the ridiculous “Bible codes” that were so popular 10 years ago?
More to the point, as I asked in another recent post: What possesses people to start hunting for these arbitrary patterns in the Bible and then ascribing some sort of theological meaning to them? Did it go something like this? “If only there were the same number of letters, consonants, and vowels in the first and last verses of the Bible, and when you added them together, you got the exact letter, consonant and vowel count of 1 John 5:7! That’d sure show those Bible skeptics, wouldn’t it. Say, I think I’ll try it. Whaaa -? Gasp! I – I don’t believe it, it’s absolutely true. It’s a miracle! I’ve got to call someone about this. Operator, give me the number for Bible Believers Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida, and right away, the future of the human race is at stake!” Only, of course, it would be in Tagalog.
Well, you knew I was going to do some fact-checking, didn’t you? In fact, Dr. Petey’s/Esplana’s word/letter count is quite correct.
But wait a minute. It’s correct based upon the 1769 KJV – the revision of the KJV text made by Benjamin Blayney that is usually published today. But didn’t Dr. Petey say this an “AV 1611” mathematical formula? Does the logo on the Bible Believers’ Bulletin not have “AV 1611” on it? Yes, it does.
No fair pulling a bait-and-switch and substituting the wrong Bible! Let’s see if this “mathematical miracle” works on the edition of the KJV that Petey says it’s supposed to. After all, as KJV-onlyists constantly harp, there’s no real difference between revisions of the KJV apart from corrections of spelling or punctuation. Well, suddenly, now we have a “proof” of the KJV’s inspiration that relies on the precise spelling of the text, so let’s see how it stacks up.
I looked up the images of the original KJV on SCETI, one of my favourite Web sites for this kind of work. Here’s the text as it originally appeared in 1611, along with the word, letter, vowel, and consonant counts:
In the beginning God created the heauen, and the Earth. (Gen. 1:1)
Whoops. Thanks to the peculiarities of early-17th-century typography, there’s a superfluous vowel in there. That means that this verse has a count of 10 words, comprising 44 letters, of which 18 are vowels and, obviously, 26 consonants. On to the last verse of the Bible:
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. (Rev. 22:21)
This verse is letter-for-letter identical in both editions. Count: 12 words comprising 44 letters, of which 17 are vowels and 27 consonants.
So the total for the first and last verses of the Bible are: 22 words, comprising 88 letters of which 35 are vowels and 53 consonants. It’s all up to you, Iohn:
For there are three that beare record in heauen, the Father, the Word, and the holy Ghost; and these three are one. (1 John 5:7)
So sorry. That’s 22 words, 89 letters, 36 vowels and 53 consonants.
I guess we’ll just have to chalk this one up as yet another crackpot KJV-only goofy proof . . . of nothing.

This strangeness you write about is a bit overwhelming for my brain but it would not surprise me at all if it is a real work of God. God is amazing far beyond our comprehension and who’s to say he did not construct the english language and inspire the translation of the KJV as well.
Why do I say this — If you’re into more strangeness, I can prove God inspired a 10 part pattern that runs perfectly throughout the Bible (OT and NT) that reveals what I call his Plan of Redemption. Gail Riplinger cites this in ‘Hazardous Materials’, of course. As a proof of the inspiration of the King James, no less. She does hold the chapter and verse divisions to be inspired as well.
The enemy of souls has certainly sidetracked and filled the mind of the above with such petty nonsense, taking up so much precious time while souls are being lost eternally in the lake of fire. Why not preach the Word instead of arguing about it. I believe the problem is there is no spititual disposition. Professors cannot have spiritual obedience, proceeding from an enlightened understanding and awakened conscious and a renewed heart. These people will have to give an account one day, for rejecting God’s Word. They need to be regenerated, by the Spirit of God.

The Bible Formula was discussed by Dr. Gail Riplinger in her latest 1,200-page book entitled “HAZARDOUS MATERIALS: Greek and Hebrew Study Dangers, the Voice of Strangers, the Men Behind the Smokescreen, Burning Bibles Word by Word.” In Chapter 31 – “Seven Infallible Proofs of the King James Bible’s Inspiration”, pp.1181-1184, she wrote the following:
No doubt myriads of miraculous phenomenon can be observed by someone who will pause and pray. Jesus said that “if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God” (John 11:40). For example, the word “sin” occurs 447 times in the King James Bible. The word “blood” occurs 477 times in the King James Bible. God’s math is perfect because “without shedding of blood is no remission” of sin (Heb. 9:22).
The following miraculous phenomenon was discovered some years ago by Periander A. Esplana, a Christian from Camarines Norte, Philippines. It may be, perhaps, God’s way of confounding “the wise and prudent,” who suggest that the Trinity of 1 John 5:7 does not belong in the Bible. From the following we can draw no other conclusions than that the Holy Bible, even in one of its many forms, reveals the glory of God. Periander, Thank you for making yourself known. It is indeed a pleasure and certainly a breath of fresh air to meet someone of your calibre with the spiritual insight you have displayed and the knowlege of the Textus Receptus and once again God is still in patience calling a people to Himself through His Holy Word. The Biblical mathmatics you have revealed is astounding, pointing us once more to the only true God who can only be found through Jesus Christ as revealed through His Sacred Scriptures.
Counting vowels and calling it “theology” is astounding?
Yes, it is astounding! God doesn’t need to prove Himself, and yet in His longsuffering for the likes of you, He makes known more infallable proofs that He wrote only one English speaking Bible for the times in which we live, but obviously that is not enough for those who wilfully disbelieve His Word. Satan must be very happy with the outcome of divisions and discention he has caused in sidetracking people from the real issues of preaching about sin and repentance and making the Saviour Lord of your life. Satan has blinded the eyes of those who believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel should shine through and they should be saved. Be careful you are not numbered amongst those, it is a serious matter!

I’m not going to defend Bible codes and even every study of Bible numbers, but it is wrong to criticize those who are into the deep study of the Miracle of God’s Word. God does not need for everyone to study his word in exactly the same way. It is complex beyond our imagination and he left very special indicators to give us clues to the DNA like structure within it’s pages.
Be careful about speaking about what God thinks is right or wrong…Jer 32:27 “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?” — From the 777th chapter.
NOTE THE VERY OBVIOUS INDICATORS OF A DNA LIKE BIBLE ORGANIZATION:
Example: It is no accident that John chapter 3 the home of John 3:16 is the 1000th chapter of the Bible.
Example: It is no accident that Psalms 22 which is a first person account of Jesus on the Cross is the 500th chapter
Example: It is no accident that Psalms 117 is the exact center chapter and happens to be the shortest and only two verse chapter.
I rarely find skeptics brave enough to declare these examples as coincidence and suspect it is because they can’t explain them; can’t dismiss them as chance; but can’t let themselves see that if they are not coincidence, they are by design–I wonder by who?
Be a little more humble and seek the truth in God’s Word and criticize those different from you a little less.

The term “KJB-infidel” implies that the proper object of faith is the KJB. If that is what you want to believe, you are entitled.
But be warned that this admission would put you outside of the faith delivered to the saints (Jude 3). In your zeal to mark yourself a “KJB believer,” therefore, you push yourself away from being a Christ believer.

Already have been, thank you. I have put my faith in the One of whom Scripture speaks, rather than mathemagical “miracles” about numbers and words that did not even exist in the day that the prophets and apostles wrote those words.
On the other hand you seem to be adding the necessity to believe in KJV-onlyism to the Gospel. Perhaps it is you, not me, who does not know what is necessary to be born again – in which case, you should fear for your own soul rather than mine.

You’re definitely right. They were not able to face the truth. They were not able to handle the established facts and irrefutable evidences I gave to them. What they did was just to ridicule with no substantial answer to my e-book which thoroughly demolish their so-called answers. One Christian wrote to me recently the following: “Do what you want, but your just wasting your time with these guys. These guys are nobodies, doing nothing for the Lord and going nowhere. The time you spend on these clowns could be time spent on productive things. Your book speaks for itself, they can take it or leave it. One of God’s identifying titles is “I am the first and the last…” See Isaiah 44:4, 44:6, and 48:12, also Revelation 1:11, 1:17, 2:8, 22:13.

The first and the last … what? Possible answers might be “In the beginning … God” (Genesis 1:1) and “In the beginning … was the Word” (John 1:1) The bible starts with God, and ends with the Lord Jesus Christ.
But he’s also called the Word. It’s interesting that this famous description of God just happens to be the “first and the last” or “the beginning and the end” of our Bible, when weighed by the method of “alpha and omega.” Maybe that’s not a coincidence. Maybe that’s a signature.

What an attitude! Do you think there are any doctrines that matter? Unitarians are not fond of the the authorized reading of 1 John 5:7 any more than they are of 1 Timothy 3:16. Does your bible say that “God was manifest in the flesh?”
Most modern translations today are Unitarian translations: they won’t have 1 John 5:7, and they exclude, rewrite, and chip away at the identity of Christ until he becomes “just a mere man.”
When an artist paints a painting, he puts a signature in the bottom. And when we transmit large data files over the internet, we use check sums, to help assure the recipient that they are receiving the whole package, as it was meant to be delivered. And when we handle objects, God designed us so we leave behind fingerprints.
Our salvation is based upon what we understand about God, and most of what we know is because it is written down for us in a book. Maybe we should make sure we’re reading from the right book. How many “fingerprints” do you need to see before you’d give the subject serious consideration and start testing it?
